Congratulation to Zsofia & Zorka for their shared first author paper in ACS Chemical Biology! Here we identified a novel enzymatic activity of histone deacetylase 11 (HDAC11). Our data reveal that HDAC11 is the most proficient fatty acid deacylase of the HDAC family and its activity can be controled by fatty acid metabolites. Our findings can facilitate the uncovering of additional biological functions of the enzyme as well as the design of isoform-specific HDAC inhibitors. Thanks also to Jana and Marat & Mike, our collaborators from Martin-Luther-University, Halle.
